New Zealand Nurses Organisation industrial action withdrawn

Published Monday 7 Aug 2023

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) has advised that the industrial action planned for Wednesday 9 August will not be going ahead.

This means that hospital and community services across Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley and the Mental Health Addiction & Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) will continue as normal on that day.

We are now in the process of working to reinstate as much deferred planned care, and as many deferred outpatient appointments, as is practical. This includes trying to ensure that deferred patients who opted into our reinstatement list can undergo their planned procedures or surgeries on the day – albeit possibly at a different time than initially scheduled. Procedures or care that cannot be reinstated will be rescheduled for the next available opportunity.

All affected patients will be contacted accordingly and should wait to hear from us about planned care or appointment.

Patients who were not told they had been deferred should attend their appointment as planned.

We highly value our nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants, and all healthcare kaimahi and the work they do each and every day to help care for our patients, whanau, and communities.
